UNDERWIRE FOR THE ROMANCE WRITER (well any writer really)
Never
underestimate the value of quality support.
This
is not a post about my brassiere. Though having an ample bosom (what a great
word and one I don’t use often), as I do, I require a brave and stalwart
volunteer from that particular section of the lingerie department.
It's not about the talented group of writers that came together to pen the end of the world at the paws of the Easter Bunny.
This
post is not about my wonderful fiancé, Nicky, who has picked up the slack
with the kids and the housework and the cooking and the cleaning, with only a
minimum of complaint, while being virtually ignored of late and bored as hell, while I chase my dream.
And it's not about Twitter, I did that already and will do so again. Soon.
Nicky's
time will come, I promise. His praises will be sung.
Today's
post is about the Facebook group comprised of Crimson Romance authors of which I am proud to
be a member. This group of fantastic women is magic. We're diverse, spread out far and
wide in every way imaginable: geographic, demographic, experience,
even the sub-genres we prefer, I mean it we run the gamut. We’re like the Baskin Robbins of writing
groups but for one large exception. We
all write romance and we are there for each other. Okay that’s two exceptions. Bite me.
And
we're really there for one another, without hesitation. One small, but to me significant,
example:
My
Crimson journey was FAST. I submitted a pitch for Fated Souls (wasn’t even its name then) on January 15th
and received a contract on January 29th with publication set for
April 15th. I had a 23 page
novella published 2 years ago that took almost 18 months to release and it
didn't require editing. I had two weeks
to do massive edits to Souls, not
counting the 48 hours I had to come up with the a new title. I don’t think
I would’ve kept my sanity without the Crimsonistas, as we call ourselves.
(For
the record: Nicky kept me ALIVE. He made me eat, sleep, bathe, kept me from
hurting the kids, listened to me whine and cry and bitch and moan as I ran
idea, after idea, after idea….get the point? Yes? They kept me sane; he didn’t
kill me. My man deserves a cookie, this I know.)
I had six weeks for marketing/publicity I figured I'd look into having a
blog tour set up as I have no idea what I'm doing. Every company I checked out
had a 2-3 month waiting list. With no idea what I was going to do or how to do
it, I reached out and within a matter of MINUTES, the Crimsonistas had strapped
on their sexiest stilettos and strutted to my rescue lining me up on their
blogs. I even had a number of them offer to read and review, even though I know
their all as busy, if not busier, than I am.
To
you fine, foxy ladies, I tip my hat.
Thanks for holding me up.
