Fated Always #NewRelease #RomanticSuspense #99cents #MFRWHooks

A blizzard struck the northeast – hard - in the winter of 1996. I and one of my brothers took my 2-year-old daughter and the family dog (really my dad’s dog) into the backyard to play in the snow. The entire world was white and cold buried under three feet of fresh powder. With nothing in sight to lift his leg against - you guessed it - Champ peed on my leg. And I yelled at him “I’m not your friend anymore”.

More than a decade later, Champ passed away and in his memory, I started writing a short story about a journalist who falls in love with a werewolf and shouts “I’m not your friend anymore” when the wolf pees on her leg. Only the short story kept growing and growing.

And now 24 years after my dad’s dog peed on me, the fourth book in a series that was never meant to be more than one short story has been released.

One may think I’d have dedicated FATED ALWAYS in Champ’s memory. But I did not. This book isn’t just romantic suspense with a paranormal element, it is in many ways about friendship, those binds that tie people to us, and the family we make from those connections. I struggled last year, personally, emotionally, and my family was there for me every step of the way.

As were my friends.

So to them, my friends, the ones who held me up when I could no longer stand on my own and have never peed on me, FATED ALWAYS is for them.

    1. Oh Holly, thank you, but now I feel bad. How can I make it up to you?

  5. Considering the inspiration, I'm surprising the story isn't either a horror story or a tale of revenge (pun intentional).

    1. I was hopping mad when it happened but a quarter of a century later, it's a funny memory.

  6. That's a humorous twist, to have the werewolf pee on the protagonist's leg. Did he do it by accident or on purpose?
I've peed on my own foot before while drunk and trying to squat discreetly behind shrubbery, but never on anyone else's leg.
